Whether you get a small dog or a large one you have a dog who will love you and sometimes be a cuddler. Coconut is a medium dog and at thirty-five-pounds he fits easily in my lap. Except he hates being hugged and won’t sit let me hold him.

I was bummed when I found out as I had a preconceived idea of how my dog would be. I tried to force him into my doggy mold instead of letting him he himself. It didn’t take long to realize that he didn’t like being held but he loved sitting on the sofa moving as close to me as possible so that his butt was against my hip and then I could pet him. He decided he liked being on his back so he could gaze into my eyes while I did a belly rub. Three years have passed since he joined our pack and he will now spoon with me! That’s a huge move. He maybe never be a cuddler or sit on my lap, but he shows his love in so many other ways.

You may have a seventy-pound dog who thinks he is a lapdog. And you know what? He is if that works for you.

One of the best things about getting a dog is that they are affectionate and they love being with us. Aren’t we lucky to have them in our life?
