It’s here, it’s here! Today’s the day! You’ve waited for a long time for this epic life-changing day. Life-changing? The Super Bowl is life-changing?

Oh, you thought I meant it was Super Bowl Sunday! No, it’s super DOG Sunday. Today is the day to come and choose your life-changing dog.

The Super Bowl is not life-changing. It might be a fun party, you might even care about football. But it’s a game.

Rescuing and adopting a dog is life-changing for your dog and for your new dog. Yes, they force you to change your schedule, to rearrange your house, to add to your budget. All those things are true.

But dogs force you to love and accept love. There’s so much written about the subject of love, and you will hear so much this month as Valentine’s day approaches. I especially love this quote this by Victor Hugo.

“You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving. The great acts of love are done by those who are habitually performing small acts of kindness. We pardon to the extent that we love. Love is knowing that even when you are alone, you will never be lonely again and great happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved. Loved for ourselves. And even loved in spite of ourselves.”

When I read this quote with my “dog eyes” I see all the ways I have failed my dog and how many times he has pardoned me without reservation. When I’ve read a book instead of playing tug-o-war. The times I’ve refused to take him for a walk. When I’ve decided I can’t afford one more toy but bought an overpriced glass of wine. He can forgive me small things that add up because he loves me.

With my dog I am never alone, I am always loved and am excited to show love to my dog. The love between us has begun to extend out to others. By feeling his love I naturally want to share that love with others.

My dog doesn’t ask for anything except for food and a place to go to the bathroom. But my dog loves to walk so we walk to his bathrooms, so many bathrooms, even when it’s cold and snowy and I’d rather be inside. That’s love. I buy food toppers to make him get excited about his food. The toys and bones I buy him, the search for dog-friendly restaurants instead of something inside with a better menu? Those are all the way I show my dog love. I’m learning that these little acts of love are adding up into one of the greatest love stories of my life.

Today is the DAY! Today can be the beginning of your great love story. We have dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds who are ready to love you. They are ready to help you learn to love unconditionally, to live out the words in the Victor Hugo quote.

We are open today till 4:00 so you can be home in time for Super Bowl and let the game become a tradition with you and your future great love.
