Today is National Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day. Besides the obvious and traveling to when there was no COVID what time would you travel to in your own life or in history?
Hands down I’d travel back to June 15, 2016, and leave the beach five minutes later than we did that day. We would not have been at that exact stoplight where the driver of the huge SUV behind us fell asleep at the wheel and smashed into us causing us to hit another SUV in front of us. That’s the time I wish I could travel back to.
But then I would not have this exact house which we do love and I would not have this exact dog. The truth be told I would not have any dog because I always swore I would never get a dog or any living thing for which I was responsible. I never in a million years would be involved with a shelter even one as awesome as NEW PAWSibilities. I would not have played a big role in saving over 5,000 dogs and raising money for the shelter and doing events and helping connect dogs with families. It’s funny how one instant in time changes everything including the entire course of a life.
But I’ve always volunteered, always tried to make a difference so I think I would prefer still having my old life and not having headaches. It doesn’t really matter because I can’t time travel and I can’t change the past, I can only go forward.
So for now moving forward means dogs. So many, many dogs! And I would not have met so many truly lovely people who love dogs.
I love this meme because it is so true. How deep is the mud? Depends on who you ask. We all go through the same stuff differently. I think I’m getting to be more like the huge white dog in the way I am going through this new journey. And I can honestly say that without Coconut, without a meaningful way to use any gifts I possess, I’d still be that little white dog with the brown dog. I bet there are a lot of you who know that your dog or dogs are the reason you’re not drowning in mud.
Dogs are awesome that way.
