True confession. I was never a dog person. Now I know it’s because we never had the right dog. But since getting a dog I’ve learned a lot. I’ve learned what not to do when it comes to having a rescue dog. I’ve slowly learned a lot about living life with a dog.

I’m a storyteller by nature. People like stories because we are all nothing more than the sum total of our stories and we grow as a community by sharing our stories.

I moved here from Hawaii for a not very good reason in March of 2017. Yes, I have answered that obvious question many more times than I can count. I now think that the state we live is in pronounced Wisconsin?! More on that later.

In October 2017 I finally gave in to my doctor’s pleas for me to get a dog to help with my PTSD and anxiety after a serious car wreck. It took two years, but I finally agreed. My grandson suggested we name our dog something from Hawaii. I’m thinking even at the tender age of seven he’s still remembering the pretty hula girls in the coconut bras. For whatever reason, our then fourteen-month-old Shepherd/Mix is now called Coconut. And my name is Carmen. And Coconut is the handsome rear-view model for our logo.

In Hawaii, there’s this thing called the coconut wireless. Loosely translated it means gossip or talk story. This blog, The Coconut Wireless, is where we talk story about dogs, rescue dogs in particular. The pace is more leisurely back home so I won’t be posting on a specific schedule. As something happens I’ll post a blog and you are welcome and encouraged to share them with any and everyone who is interested in dogs.

Thanks for letting me share our story. I hope you learn lots of new things or it brings back doggy memories of things you didn’t do as well as you would have liked. Either way, thanks for being a part of the NEW PAWSibilities community!
