In 1950 Bette Davis played Margo Channing In the movie All About Eve. Margo is a past-her-prime actress with a flair for drama. In fact, she’s determined to have the spotlight on herself at a birthday party she throws for someone else. After downing her martini in one gulp, she walks away, turns around (dramatically, of course) and announces, “Fasten your seatbelts; it’s going to be a bumpy night.”

Last year the days leading up to New Year’s Eve were loud with all the fireworks people felt entitled to shoot off no matter what ordinances were in place. This year it was a quiet celebration because all of our neighbors who love fireworks and used to shoot them off like it was a war zone have moved away. There was nothing noisy in my neighborhood and Coconut was calm and happy.

I love a new year because I believe in:

Renewed Hope
New Opportunities
New Adventures
New Ways to Give and Love

We are part of a new Oshkosh-wide search engine that will launch January 8th filled with volunteer opportunities making it easier for you and others to access ways to volunteer which will help us find even more great people who want to help rescue and home dogs and take care of them while they are with us. We hope to find event volunteers, photographers, writers, and so much more.

This year we are creating new ways to give. One of them is through the Ruff Times Doggy Food Pantry. In two weeks we’ll be launching the pantry for families in need. This will be such a fabulous way for our community to donate food and treats, to volunteer in the food bank to help respond to the critical needs and to show our community that finding homes for dogs is not enough. We want to help families keep their dogs even when they fall on hard times. We’ll be announcing details this week and it’s exciting!

Everyone at NEW PAWSibilities believes that 2020 might just be the best year ever. We’re starting our year with twenty dogs who will get homes soon. From there, there is no limit to the dogs we can rescue and the families we can complete.

I hope you are along for the ride this year. It could get a little bumpy as we try new things but once we work out the inevitable kinks it’s going to be fun!

Consider our seatbelts fastened.
